Partnering for Education Luncheon A Huge Success!

Kent Pekel

The second annual Partnering for Education luncheon took place on February 21, 2013 at the North Oaks Golf Club.  More than 175 parents, business and community leaders enjoyed a presentation by Kent Pekel, President and CEO of Search Institute, a leading global innovator in discovering what children and adolescents need to succeed in their families, schools and communities. Mr Pekel's presentation focused on strategies for closing gaps that exist between young peoples' high aspirations for the future and the actions they take every day. Dan Hoverman, superintendent of Mounds View Schools, discussed the need for the school district to continue to add value to our community. The presentation also included powerful testimonials from two high school seniors.

Deluxe Supports Early College

The Deluxe Corporation recently made a $10,000 contribution to Mounds View Schools Education Foundation in support of the Irondale High School Early College Program.  The grant will focus on after school academic programs, including weekly targeted tutoring sessions and study aids for those students enrolled in Advanced Placement courses.  "The Deluxe grant allows us to offer additional supports for students outside the school day.  These supports are designed to increase the skill sets of students taking College or AP level courses for the first time and in turn improve their likelihood of success," said Scott Gengler,  Irondale High School Principal.

Thanks to Deluxe Corporation for its continued support of the Mounds View Schools.

Inaugural Rock the School House Event a Success!

On November 9, the inaugural Rock the School House, a fundraising event supporting the Mounds View Schools Education Foundation, took place at the Silverwood Park Great Hall in Saint Anthony.  Parents, educators and community leaders came together for a fun night of music, dancing and socializing. The Belfast Cowboys, a nine-piece Van Morrison cover band provided the entertainment.

The event raised almost $24,000, which will allow us to continue to support programs including Laurentian Environmental Center and the ACT Choice Initiative!
